False Code [DBD Chapter Concept | 2025]

I developed this Dead By Daylight Concept Chapter as part of my third year at university. 

I created a Survivor and Killer, complete with their backstories and perks, and then worked with Molly Goundry to bring their designs to life. I also wrote a series of memories for the survivor that would unlocked by playing through the Chapter's Tome - Evolution, and made some mockups of my work in game (see below).

Both characters were created by studying where there were gaps in Dead By Daylight's Survivor and Killer Roster (age, gender, ability, perks) and using that as a starting point. This process let me to creating Rowan, a non-binary games developer and Valeria/The Copycat, a female shapeshifting killer.

Rowan is a troubled creator, using their knowledge to bend the rules and stay alive. Their perks, Boon: Renewal, Lost Muse, and Boundary’s Edge, allow them to replenish their items, escape the killer and evade being hooked.

The Copycat is a stealth killer, able to take on the form of survivors in order to sneak up on them. Her perks, Paparazzi, Final Callback, and Hex: Diminishing Returns, allow her to track her prey, reduce the efficacy of their items, and stop them from escaping the hunting grounds.

This project was an extremely rewarding one to do, as I was able to work on not only narrative writing, but also technical writing, various aspects of design, and even art. I feel that I learned a great deal from it, and have a greater appreciation for game development as a whole due to this.

Biding her time, she waits for the moment when their guard is down in order to strike, before taking on their appearance and vanishing into the darkness to find her next victim.”
